FVKC HISTORY Farmington Valley Kennel Club is an American Kennel Club member club and was incorporated on April 26, 1940 as the Nutmeg Dog Club. The name was changed to Farmington Valley Kennel Club on May 29, 1944. The mission of FVKC is to further the advancement of all breeds of purebred dogs and to do all in its power to protect the interests of all breeds of purebred dogs. Our first dog show was held Sept. 1, 1946. The dog show tradition continues. For many years the shows were held at the Farmington Polo Grounds. In 1990 we celebrated our 50 th Anniversary with a spectacular show. FVKC became known for the Polo Grounds shows. A few years after that due to a conflict in dates, FVKC was forced to change the show site and moved to the Better Living Center in W. Springfield, Ma. The move led to the beginning of the Yankee Classic Cluster held in July of each year. In 2005, Farmington Valley Kennel Club and Kenilworth Kennel Club were approached by The Mohegan Sun and invited to co-sponsor the Mohegan Sun Challenge show held each Nov. at the Mohegan Sun Arena . This show features a "Meet the Breeds" and a "Guided Tour of a Dog Show". Farmington Valley Kennel Club will continue its tradition of serving all aspects of the dog community.
